V. Jackson Moore - Executive Director
A voice for second chances, a vision for lasting impact.

Vera Moore is the Founder and Director of True Beginnings, recognized by the Governor of Virginia for her work restoring voting rights to returning citizens. She is the author of Taking Off My Old Coat, a novel about her journey through incarceration, and creator of the B.A.S.I.C.S. curriculum, later published as The Ex-Offender Toolkit.

With lived experience of drugs, incarceration, homelessness, and domestic violence, Vera has transformed her life into a mission of service. As a public speaker, facilitator, and entrepreneur, she empowers women to heal from trauma, reclaim their voices, and build legacies their families can be proud of. Her vision is to create generational change by helping people transform how they see themselves—so they not only survive, but flourish.

Moore’s organization True Beginnings specializes in gender responsive services, advocacy, and trauma treatment; with an emphasis on rebuilding skills and providing peer support. These are things that helped her along in her own journey. She believes people are worthy of second chances, and therefore continues to fight the good fight and push forward. It is her vision to prove there is a higher purpose in all of us and make that visible to society at large.
